ROTENOIDS & RELATED O-HETEROCYCLES
The rotenoids are a group of closely related, multi-ring O-heterocycles
linked biosynthetically, but also by their insecticidal properties.
This latter property has encouraged their use, notably rotenone itself,
as natural pesticides. In recent literature, the rotenoids have been
reported to have a much wider scope of activity in mamallian systems
that suggests both therapeutic and toxicological indications. Rotenone,
which is readily available, has been studied extensively, however, less
common members, such as deguelin, have been shown to have striking effects
in antineoplastic and related areas.
GAIA provides access to many rotenoids for both research and product
development.
